First of many: CDF supports opening of new MACSEYE Children’s Hub
May 11, 2026

In the fast-growing suburb of Melton, a new chapter in Catholic early learning has begun. The St Lawrence of Brindisi Children's Hub has officially opened; the first of 12 purpose-built Children's Hubs that MACSEYE plans to deliver across Melbourne by 2029, and a significant milestone in the effort to bring high-quality early learning to families in some of the city's most rapidly expanding communities.

CDF has been proud to support MACSEYE since its inception in 2024, providing vital operational support as it scales to meet growing demand while empowering children so they can contribute to a thriving, resilient, and compassionate society.

"Today we gather with joy and gratitude to bless St Lawrence of Brindisi Children's Hub - a place of learning, care, and community. This place begins small, but is filled with great promise. Here, children will grow in wisdom, confidence, and love, supported by those who guide and care for them."

A place of learning, care and community

Purpose-built to meet future growth in Melbourne's West, the Hub will support up to 235 kindergarten places for three- and four-year-olds, alongside 45 places for before- and after-school care. Shared spaces for planning, consultation and community engagement are woven throughout, making it a hub in every sense of the word.

Importantly, the St Lawrence of Brindisi Children's Hub sits alongside St Lawrence of Brindisi Catholic Primary School, which opened in 2022 and is already one of the fastest-growing Catholic schools in Victoria. Together, they form a connected learning ecosystem, from early childhood through to primary school, grounded in Catholic values and designed to support families from the very beginning.

Responding to a growing community

Melton is one of Melbourne's fastest-growing corridors, with more than 200,000 additional residents expected in the region by 2046. The demand for quality early learning infrastructure is critical, and with strong early enrolment interest already evident, the Hub is meeting a genuine community need.

Guided by Catholic values of love, compassion and justice, the Hub has been designed to foster belonging and community from the earliest years, encouraging children to grow in confidence, resilience and empathy as they take their first steps in learning.

"The early years are critical. When children develop a sense of belonging, they have a strong foundation for lifelong learning. Spaces like this, combined with meaningful relationships and thoughtfully planned learning experiences, make that possible," shared Heather Finlayson, Managing Director, MACSEYE.

Part of something bigger

Each new MACSEYE Children's Hub represents an investment of approximately $7 million. This first opening in Melton signals the beginning of a broader network -12 new Hubs across Melbourne by 2029 - that will connect early learning, faith and community in places where families need it most.

CDF is proud to be walking alongside MACSEYE through this next phase of growth.

In the heart of Creswick - a historic gold rush town nestled in Victoria's central highlands, just 16 kilometres north of Ballarat - St Augustine's Primary School has been a cornerstone of community life for over 170 years. Established in 1855 to meet the needs of families during the Gold Rush, the school has grown and evolved across generations while remaining anchored in its Catholic faith and its deep sense of place. Today, St Augustine's is home to 144 students from Foundation to Year 6. Committed to the holistic development of students, the school focuses not just on academic excellence but on social and emotional wellbeing; and it does so as an integral part of the wider St Augustine's Parish and the Creswick community it has served for so long. Now, thanks to a $3.6 million redevelopment supported by CDF, the Diocese of Ballarat Catholic Education Ltd (DOBCEL), and the Federal Government, this much-loved school is stepping confidently into its next chapter.

For some children, the classroom can feel overwhelming. Anxiety, trauma, learning challenges or difficult life experiences can make it hard to concentrate, participate or feel safe at school. For these students, reconnecting with learning often requires more than traditional support approaches. Since 2018, MacKillop Family Services’ Paw Pals program has quietly been helping students take meaningful steps forward, one gentle interaction at a time. Through the presence of specially trained therapy dogs and skilled facilitators, Paw Pals creates safe and supportive environments where children can regulate emotions, rebuild trust and re-engage with learning. For the past five years, CDF has proudly partnered with MacKillop Family Services to support the continued growth of this program across schools.

On Sunday 22 March 2026, the Catholic community in Albany gathered for a moment that had been generations in the making. St Joseph's Church, Albany was formally declared the first Diocesan Shrine for the Diocese of Bunbury - a recognition that affirms what so many in the community have long known: this is a place where faith endures, and where people come to seek hope. The Elevation Mass, celebrated by Bishop George Kolodziej SDS DD and led locally by Parish Priest Fr Vincent Comple OSJ, brought together clergy, pilgrims and visitors from across the diocese to mark the occasion. It was the culmination of a weekend of prayer, reflection and celebration that honoured both the history of the Church in Albany and the beginning of this new chapter. A weekend of prayer and pilgrimage The celebrations unfolded across three days. Friday opened with a Holy Hour and Mass celebrated by Bishop George. On Saturday, pilgrims walked through Albany retracing the history of the Catholic Church in the region, before gathering for Mass and fellowship. Sunday's Elevation Mass brought the weekend to a close, followed by a community celebration of this important milestone.
