Commemorating Australia's first Saint with MacKillop Family Services
Jul 18, 2023

This August MacKillop Family Services is commemorating the remarkable life of Australia’s first Saint, Mary MacKillop.

MacKillop Family Services history extends back to 1854 when the Sisters of Mercy, Christian Brothers and Sisters of St Joseph began their work in Australia, establishing homes for children who were orphaned, destitute or neglected, and for families in need of care and support.

Today, MacKillop Family Services continues to embody Mary MacKillop’s passion for social justice and concern for children who experience disadvantage.

"Caring for vulnerable families was the impetus that drove Mary MacKillop to find a place in her heart for those most challenged by life’s circumstances. That compassion has come full circle when a sixth cousin of Mary MacKillop continued the legacy of caring for others by opening her home to children who are unable to live with their families through the foster program offered by Mackillop Family Services."

To celebrate Mary MacKillop’s legacy and commemorate her Feast Day on August 8;

Catholic organisations can:

• Book a speaker from MacKillop Family Services.

Run a special appeal in support of MacKillop Family Serivces’ work to keep children engaged with education.

In Saint Mary MacKillop's words, "Never see a human need without doing something about it." Through MacKillop Family Services, you can help make a positive impact in the lives of vulnerable children and families and honor the remarkable life and legacy of Saint Mary MacKillop.
